Incorporated in 1906, Newport Beach is located about ten miles south of Santa Ana, in Orange County, California. The community's history reaches back to 1870 when a steamer named "The Vaquero" made its first trip to what was then a marshy lagoon, for the purposes of trading, leading ranch owners to decide that the area should be called Newport. When the Pacific Electric Railway connected the beach with downtown Los Angeles, the settlement incorporated as the City of Newport Beach.
