The city of Norwalk, in Los Angeles County, was incorporated as a charter city in 1957. Founded in the late 19th century, it was at that time, it had a large Dutch population and housed numerous dairies. It gained national fame in 1958 when two military aircraft collided over Norwalk, killing 47 servicemen and one civilian woman who was hit by falling debris.
