California’s Redwood City is the county seat of San Mateo County. It was first settled during the 1850s and 18603, when Simon Mezes began selling land to settlers along Redwood Creek. The seaport at Redwood City became very active and it became the county seat in 1856. It became the first incorporated city in the county in 1868.
