The jewel in the Inland Empire in Southern California is the city of Riverside, located in the county of the same name. The city was founded by John W. North, from Tennessee, who had already founded Northfield, Minnesota. In 1870, two cuttings of a mutation called the "navel orange" were shipped from Brazil to Riverside, and they were such a hit that worldwide, the oranges are called "Riverside oranges."
