The City of Sterling is the county seat of Logan County in Colorado. Originally inhabited by the Arapaho, Blackfoot, Cheyenne, Crow, Kiowa, Pawnee, and Sioux, its first European explorers were members of the expedition of Major Stephen Long, who called the area "The Great American Desert." It was settled in 1871 and incorporated as a home rule municipality in 1884.
