Torrington, Connecticut is situated in Litchfield County. Founded as a mill town, it was settled in 1735 and called Wolcutville. In 1813, Frederick Wolcott built the brass mill which brought on the town's industry, brass. The town was later named in honor of the hometown of one of its elite, who harkened from Torrington, Wyoming.
