Riverdale is in Clayton County, Georgia. Settlers first moved into the area sometime before the American Civil War, In 1887, the railroad came through, after which much of the settlement's economy came from supplying wood to the railroad, then fertilizer became a significant part of the local economy. W.S. Rivers, for whom the town was later named, donated land to the railroad, allowing the area to become a main stop.
