The village of Antioch is geographically located in Lake County, Illinois. It was founded in the mid 19th century, and the name was mockingly suggested by those who sneered at the founding church known as the Disciples of Christ. It was, shortly thereafter, the regional abolitionist movement center. It was disincorporated after the War Between the States after many of the original settlers left the area, but it was re-incorporated in 1892.
