The village of Elizabeth is situated in Jo Daviess County, Illinois. It was the site of the Apple River Fort in 1832, when the last battle of the Black Hawk War took place there. It was named for Elizabeth Armstrong, who rallied the terrified women at that fort and they all molded musket balls and loaded weapons for the men who were fighting.
