The Village of Mundelein is in Lake County, Illinois. The area was inhabited by the Potawatami Indians at least as early as 1650, when they were known to have been trading with the French. The first European settlers arrived in the early 1800s. Before receiving its current name, Mundelein had been known as Mechanics Grove, Holcomb, Rockefeller, and Area.
