The village of Northbrook, situated in Cook County, Illinois, began as Shermerville, in honor of Frederick Schermer, who donated land on which to built the first train station. As part of a public relations push, the name was changed to Northbrook in 1923. Much of the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" was filmed in Northbrook.
