Wood Dale, a city in DuPage County, Illinois, was inhabited by part of the Sioux nation, the Winnebago tribe, who gave up the land in 1818 via a treaty. In 1833, Hezekiah Dunklee and Mason Smith staked out a claim which became known as Dunklee's Grove. German immigrants settled throughout the area before the Civil War, and in 1874, the name of the town had been changed to Lester. In 1928, it was incorporated as the Village of Wood Dale.
