Corydon is the seat of Harrison County, and a former capital of the State of Indiana. In the early 1800s, General William Henry Harrison, Governor of the Indiana Territory, often stopped to visit a friend who had settled there. Coming upon the area where the Big and Little Indian Creeks joined to become Indian Creek, he proposed that this would be a good place for a town. The name was taken from a shepherd in one of his favorite hymns.
