Evansville is the third largest city in Indiana, and the seat of Vanderburgh County. The city was located on a bend in the Ohio River, and is sometimes referred to as the "River City". Evansville was named for Robert Morgan Evans, an officer in the War of 1812 and one of the city's founders.
