Named in honor of Dr. Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Rushville was the campaign headquarters for Wendell Willkie's 1940 presidential campaign in his run against Franklin D. Roosevelt. Willkie is buried in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery. Rushville is the seat of Rush County, Indiana.
