Coffeyville, located in Montgomery County, Kansas, was founded in 1869 as an Indian trading post by Col. James A. Coffey. It served the people in both Kansas and Oklahoma and is probably best known for the place where four members of the Dalton Gang were killed in a gunfight. The only surviving Dalton was Emmett, who suffered 23 bullet wounds and subsequently spent 14 years in prison/
