Morehead, Kentucky is the seat of Rowan County. It was named in honor of Governor James T. Morehead. It was the site of the Rowan County War, which began in 1880 and lasted several years and killed at lease a score of people and wounded more than 100. The "war" began as an election day brawl in a bar and led to numerous gunfights that day.
