The city of Broussard is located in Lafayette and St. Martin Parishes. Originally, the area was called "Cote Gelee" meaning "frozen hills" due to an extremely severe winter in 1784. A prominent business man named Valsin Broussard, officially founded and named the city after himself in 1884.
