York, Pennsylvania is known as the White Rose City, the white rose being the symbol of the House of York, the English royal House of Plantagenet. It is the county seat of York County. It was founded in 1741 and served as the temporary capital of the Continental Congress during the Revolutionary War. It was incorporated as a borough in 1787 and as a city in 1887.
