The Kent County town of Chestertown, Maryland was founded in 1705 and has enjoyed life as a shipping port. It is known for its solidarity with the founding fathers in Boston, because five months after the British closed the port of Boston in retaliation for the Tea Party, Chestertown wrote laws prohibiting people from buying, selling, or drinking tea. That act of solidarity is celebrated every year in the Chestertown Tea Party Festival.
