The unincorporated town of Jessup, situated in Howard and Anne Arundel Counties in Maryland, was the location of the infamous Maryland House of Correction until 2007. The town was originally called Jessup’s Cut and was a post village on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, named in honor of a civil engineer on the B&O named Jonathan Jessup. In 1863, it was shortened to Jessups, and eventually became known as simply Jessup.
