Solomons, Maryland, situated in Calvert County, was originally called Bourne’s Island when it was settled in 1680, and that name was changed to Somervell’s Island in 1740. It was renamed Solomons Island after a businessman named Isaac Solomon who founded a Baltimore cannery just after the American Civil War. To this day, Mr. Solomon’s house stands on the island.
