In 1850, a new place of worship was built in Ada, nearer the majority of its members, and its name was changed to the First Congregational Church of Ada. Carmelite Nuns of Ada (Parnell) Michigan
Founded by sixteen Carmelite nuns fled Mexico to the United States during a period of persecution of the Church, the Monastery is under the patronage of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Several photographs of the monastery are displayed, with an overview of the vocation of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns, including a history of the monastery, which was originally known as the Carmel of Grand Rapids. St. Robert of Newminster Parish
The beginnings of St. Robert’s Parish were in 1836, when Ottawa Indians built a small Catholic chapel in Ada Township, after which is served Ottawas, Christians, and farmers who had recently settled the region. However, it was known simply as the chapel at Ada and did not become a parish until 1951.
