On Lake Michigan’s most remote island, bikers can enjoy 20-42 miles of biking, at their own pace, traveling a combination of pavement, gravel roads, and two tracks, with great views, island monuments, and historic sites, each route including rest stops where food, drinks, and bathrooms are available. Beaver Island District Library
In operation for more than thirty years, the library is located on Donegal Bay Road and serves the entirety of Beaver Island, Michigan, including both townships and communities. Created on land once farmed by Tom McDonough, the golf course was built under the direction of a former golf pro, Matt Melville, and opened to the public in 1959. Although it was originally named Shamrock Hills, it has commonly been known as the Beaver Island Golf Course from the beginning. Beaver Island Studio & Gallery
Located across from the library, on Donegal Bay Road, the studio and gallery are operated by Lois Sowa Stipp, an artist who is also the curator and director for the Diamond Valley Arts Council in Southern California. Her work is highlighted on the site, and offered for sale online, with free shipping within the continental United States. The Beaver Island Community Center includes the Ray & Ann Stanhope Visitors Center, McDonough’s Market Theater, and Ray & Ann’s Hangout, the former being the home of WVBI, the island’s community radio station, and the latter being an upstairs space for meetings, reading, pool, games, television, and community computers, while the theater hosts music of all genres, dance, theater productions, movies, seminars, and community meetings.
