With the rivers and lakes within and around the village of Bellaire, Michigan, it is an attractive area for recreational tourism, particularly during the summer months when its population swells with vacation visitors. Summer hikers, bikers, backpackers, and wildlife enthusiasts come to partake of nearly 44,000 acres of nearby state forest land, as well as the Grass River Natural Area. Boardwalks and trails provide access to marshes, creeks, rivers, and cedar forests.
Swimming, boating and fishing are common summer activities for residents and visitors alike. In the fall, driving tours bring visitors along some of the state's most scenic back roads. With the winter, comes snowmobiling, sledding, and nearby ski slopes.
As the county seat, people from other parts of the county are often brought to Bellaire.
Visitors are accommodated by several local hotels, motels, guest inns, bed and breakfast facilities, resorts, cabin rentals, RV parks, and campgrounds, and these are the focus of topics found in this category.
