Opened in 1913, the Cheboygan Carnegie Library was the original Free Public Library in Cheboygan, Michigan. In the process of renovating and redesigning the historic building, it is currently utilized as a hybrid non-profit/for-profit business incubator. The county fair was first held on the grounds of the Cheboygan Horse Association in 1878, then moved to O’Brien’s Grove, and then to Wolverine. In the late 1940s, the Cheboygan County Fair Association acquired 30 acres where the County Fairgrounds are now located, and it has been held there since. Built to house the Cheboygan, Michigan city hall, police department, fire department, and opera house in 1877, the building was closed for twenty years in the mid-1900s but restored and reopened in its original configuration in 1984.
