Fenwick is in southeastern Fairplain Township, southern Montcalm County, in the central Lower Peninsula of Michigan.
As an unincorporated community, Fenwick there's not have defined boundaries. However, it is located along Fenwick Road, centered on Collins Road, between Brown Road to the west and M-66 to the east. Sheridan is about four miles north. Other cities and villages within twenty miles of Fenwick include Belding, Greenville, Stanton, Ionia, Carson City, Hubbardston, Muir, and Lyons.
The Fenwick post office serves the southeastern portion of Fairplain Township, as well as parts of Bushnell Township, Bloomer Township, North Plains Township, Ronald Township, and Orleans Township.
The unincorporated village was named for Fenwick, Ontario, the hometown of B.C. Loree, who is acknowledged as Fenwick's founder. Loree built a home in the area around 1872. A Post office was established in Fenwick on April 28, 1873, with James R. Hall as the postmaster. The village was planted and recorded by S.C. Aderman for Simon M. Sarah and David Griswold, proprietors, and May 22, 1874. However, the village was never incorporated.
