Manufacturing and service industries within the Michigan community of Ida, or Ida Township, are the focus of topics in this guide.
Traditionally, manufacturing has been a large part of the economy within the United States, and the agricultural industries have always been a significant factor in the economy of Ida Township. Its earliest European-American settlers were farmers, and farming operations are still common within the area.
Other types of manufacturing industries, that may or may not exist within Ida Township, include the food, textile mill, clothing, metal, chemical, leather, paper, rubber, plastic, wood, breweries, machinery, electrical, computer, and petroleum refining industries.
Construction and other contracting services, such as electricians, plumbers, and landscapers, as well as auto repair shops, auto body shops, and computer repair and maintenance services, are somewhere between manufacturing and service industries, and are also appropriate for this category, if located in Ida Township.
Service industries are a little more difficult to define, although they are becoming more significant every year. Services differ from manufacturing in that they produce a service rather than a product, and services are not things that can be so easily stocked or priced. Therefore, services may be paid for by the hour or, in some cases, under contract, or by the job. Because services are heterogeneous, they are rooted in social and cultural transactions.
Service industries include the distribution of goods, financial services, legal services, funeral services, utilities, advertising and marketing, and various professional and business services.
For the purpose of categorization, we have elected to include some service industries in separate categories, where applicable. For example, health services would be listed in a Health & Public Safety category, if one exists, and transportation services would be listed in a category known as Getting From Here to There, retail services in Things to Buy, and recreational and entertainment services in Things to Do & Places to Go. When these subcategories do not exist, sites representing these topics should be submitted to the main Ida category.
