The K-12 population of the city is served by Jackson Public Schools. Its campuses and programs include Cascades Elementary School, Dibble Elementary School, Hunt Elementary School, John R. Lewis Elementary School, Northeast Elementary School, Sharp Park Academy, Fourth Street Learning Center, Middle School at Parkside, Jackson Pathways, Jackson High School, JPS Montessori Center, and the Jackson Area Career Center, and perhaps some others.

Based in the city, Jackson County Intermediate School District provides educational services in partnership with local schools and the community.

Jackson also has faith-based and privately operated schools, preschools, and childcare services. Examples include Jackson Christian School, which includes JCS Elementary/Preschool and JCS Middle/High School, as well as ABC Academy, God's Garden Early Learning Center, Jack & Jill Cooperative Preschool, and North Star Montessori.

Established as Jackson Junior College in 1928, Jackson College offers nearly fifty associate degrees, certificate programs, and transfer options. JJC also hosts a number of other programs, including Ross College Jackson, a Separate Educational Center providing the academic portion of Ross College's medical training programs. Also housed at JJC is a campus of Siena Heights University, offering bachelor's degree completion programs and distance learning for adults in Jackson, as well as Jackson Preparatory & Early College, where students can earn a tuition-free diploma and associate's degree, offering a headstart on a career option or further study at Jackson College or a four-year university.

There are also a couple of driver training programs in Jackson, such as Acceler8 Driver Education, a family-owned business that offers programs in several school campuses within the city.
