Situated in the northeast segment of Fairfield Township, Jasper, Michigan is an unincorporated community in south Lenawee County, near the Ohio border.
As a census-designated place (CDP), Jasper has defined borders, unlike other unincorporated communities, albeit for the purpose of the census only. The CDP boundaries are Horton Road as its northern boundary, Weston Road as its southern boundary, Morse Highway as its western boundary, and Baker Highway as its eastern boundary. Adrian Highway (M-52) bisects the CDP into western and eastern halves, while Packard Road roughly parallels Black Creek, entering the central-west portion of the CDP and ending at its intersection with Adrian Highway.
The largest concentration of Jasper's population is along Adrian Highway and Deland Road (Ogden Street), north of Black Creek.
Incorporated cities and villages within twenty miles of Jasper include Adrian, Morenci, Blissfield, Clayton, Tecumseh, Onsted, Deerfield, and Hudson, in Michigan, while the village of Lyons, Ohio is just over eight miles to the south. The unincorporated community of Fairfield is just over a mile north of Jasper, Weston is just over four miles south and west, and Sand Creek is about five miles to the north and west.
The first European-American settler is believed to have been Andrew Millett, who built a home there in 1824. In the 1860s, a railroad station was established in Jasper, along the Monroe Branch of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway. The railroad station was first named Fairfield, but was later renamed, Jasper. On June 18, 1874, a post office was established, with Henry Ferguson as postmaster. Jasper became a census-designated place for the 2010 census, at which time its population was 412.
