Coming to the area in 1840, A.S. Potter is believed to have been the first European-American settler in Jeddo, as well as the township. As others joined him, the new community became known as Potter's Corners. When a post office was established on February 12, 1859, it was named Pottersburg, and Nelson Potter was appointed as the first postmaster. On July 6, 1864, supposedly to avoid confusion with the Petersburg post office, the post office changed its name to Jeddo. The Jeddo post office serves all of Grant Township, and parts of Fremont Township, Worth Township, and Burtchville Township.
