Situated in southwest Bedford Township in southern Monroe County, Lambertville is on the Michigan-Ohio border.
Although unincorporated, Lambertville is a census-designated place (CDP) for the purpose of the U.S. Census, with a population of 9,953 at the time of the 2010 census. However, the CDP boundaries are for the purpose of the census only, and may not reflect the area locally acknowledged as being in Lambertville.
Indian Creek, Bragden Ditch, Spring Brook, Halfway Creek, and Silver Ditch flow through the CDP. The CDP is centered on the intersection of Sterns Road and Secor Road.

The community was named for John Lambert, who is credited with founding the village in 1832. However, when a post office was established on June 13, 1834, it was named West Erie, for its location west of Erie Township. William Dunbar was the first postmaster. The post office was renamed Lambertville on January 15, 1836. It was closed on March 25, 1865, but reopened on December 4, 1865.
As a small bit of trivia, the first school bus safety mirror was installed in the late 1940s near Lambertville. After a school bus driver nearly ran a child over who was in his blind spot, he designed the mirror.

Situated at Monroe and Secor Roads, the building is the second school to occupy the site. The original two-story brick building was built in the 1890s, but destroyed in 1920, while the current building was constructed as Lambertville High School in 1922, housing grades 1-12 until 1946, after which various grades were held there until 1972 when it housed the Bedford School Administration until 1982. Vacant until 1986, the building was renovated to accommodate various businesses.
