There are no chain hotels on Mackinac Island, but there are plenty of independent hotels, bed and breakfasts, resorts, condominiums, cottages, and rental homes, including a large number of elegant historic hotels and family-owned homes.
Short-term guest facilities on the island are the focus of this category.
The Grand Hotel opened in 1887 as a summer retreat for vacationers, most of whom came to Michigan by train and to the island by steamer or boat. Listed as a National Historic Landmark, the Grand Hotel is on the west side of the island.
Situated adjacent to the Mackinac Island Marina, near Fort Mackinac, the Chippewa Hotel has also been in operation for more than a century, offering a wide variety of rooms and suites. The Pink Pony, one of the island's most popular restaurants, is situated within the Chippewa Hotel.
Constructed in the mid-1850s, the Bogan Lane Inn was originally a private home and is currently a year-round bed and breakfast inn. Another island B&B, the Cloghaun Bed and Breakfast is housed in one of the oldest houses on the island and filled with antiques and accessories from the late 1800s.
Offering nightly, weekly, and monthly rentals, the DeLanglade Condominiums is located downtown, near shops and restaurants, and offers views of the Straits of Mackinac.
These are just a few of the guest lodging facilities on Mackinac Island, as there are several others.
