Warren Consolidated Schools operates Susick Elementary School, while the Avondale School District operates Woodland Elementary School, and the Birmingham School District operates Pembroke Elementary School, all within the Troy city limits. In addition, portions of Troy are served by Bloomfield Hills School District, Lamphere Public Schools, and Royal Oak School District.

The International Academy, in which students are required to earn both high school and International Baccalaureate diplomas, has a campus in Troy, although its main campus is in Bloomfield Township.

Private schools offering K-12 education in Troy include Bethany Christian School, Brookfield Academy, Oakland Children's Academy, St. Mark Christian Academy, and Troy Adventist Academy.

Walsh College, a private institution focused on business education, is based in Troy, and several other universities and colleges have campuses in Troy, although they are headquartered elsewhere.
