The focal point of this portion of our guide is on attractions and events in the City of Troy, Michigan.
Troy is the largest city in Oakland County, by population, and a significant part of the Detroit Metro region. Including parks, nature centers, entertainment venues, and historical places, there is a lot to see and do in Troy.
Of particular interest is the Troy Historic Village. With ten historic or reconstructed buildings, historic objects on display, and several events taking place throughout the year, the Village offers visitors a chance to view the lifestyle of people who lived in the area as far back as the 1800s.
Its main museum building once served as the Troy Township Hall and, later, Troy City Hall, was built in 1927, and has housed a general museum since 1966. Other buildings include a print shop once owned by J. Henry Russell, a reconstruction of a general store built by Edward Peck in 1832, an old church and parsonage, and a building that served as the Troy Union School in 1864. Other buildings within the Village are a home built by Soloman Caswell in 1832, a reconstruction of an 1840s log cabin, a wagon shop and blacksmith, and the old Poppleton School, built in 1877 and relocated to the Village in 1980.
Other museums and historical places in Troy would also be appropriate for this part of our guide, as would local libraries, art galleries, theaters, and entertainment venues, as well as online resources for local sports teams, programs, and facilities, whether operated by the municipal government, school or college systems, non-profit organizations, or as private businesses, such as arcades or bowling alleys. Parks and hiking trails would also be suitable subjects for this category.
Troy concerts, festivals, and other events could be listed here.
