Andover, Minnesota is in Anoka County, just north of Crooked Lake, which is mostly in Coon Rapids. The community was first organized as Round Lake Township in 1857, which was changed to Grow Township in 1860, in honor of Pennsylvania Senator Galusha Grow, who was a strong advocate for the Union. In 1972, the town was incorporated as Andover Village, which was the historical name for its train station. The village became the City of Andover in 1974. Besides Coon Lake, other nearby communities include Anoka, Blaine, Champlin, Dayton, Ham Lake, Oak Grove, and Ramsey. Minneapolis, Minnesota is about twenty miles south of Andover.
