Platted in 1856, Arlington, Minnesota was incorporated in 1858, when Minnesota became a state, becoming a city in 1948. The Sibley County community was settled primarily by German settlers who came in the 1860s and 1870s. The main route through the city is Minnesota State Highway 5. Nearby communities include Assumption, Blakely, Brownton, Gaylord, Green Isle, Hamburg, Henderson, Jessenland, New Aurburn, New Rome, and Stewart, Sumter, and Winthrop. Minneapolis, Minnesota is about fifty-eight miles northeast of Arlington.
