Garrison Keillor was raised in Brooklyn Park, and graduated from Anoka High School. Former wrestler and the 38th governor of Minnesota, Jesse Ventura, served as mayor of Brooklyn Park from 1991 to 1995. Minneapolis is about twelve miles south, and Saint Paul is twenty-five miles southeast of Brooklyn Park.
