The city’s downtown district is centered on the intersection of 40th Avenue NE and Central Avenue, and includes the Heights Theater, the public library, county offices, and several businesses, with Central Avenue forming a commercial district along its length. After more than doubling in size during the 1950s, the city’s population has remained relatively stable since 1960, with minor gains and losses in population.
