Corcoran is in northwestern Hennepin County, Minnesota. The community was settled in 1855, the first white settler being Benjamin Pounder, incorporated as a village in 1858, and named for Patrick B. Corcoran, the town’s first school teacher, merchant, and postmaster. Corcoran was incorporated as a city in 1948. Surrounding and nearby communities include Albertville, Champlin, Dayton, Greenfield, Hamel, Hanover, Independence, Loretto, Maple Grove, Maple Plain, Medina, Orono, Osseo, Plymouth, Rockford, Rogers, and St. Michael. Minneapolis, Minnesota is just over twenty miles southeast of Corcoran.
