Crosslake is in Crow Wing County, in the Whitefish Chain of Lakes region of Minnesota. Incorporated in 1959, the nearby community of North Cross Lake was absorbed into Crosslake in 1972. The chief routes through the city include County Roads 3, 16, 36, 66, and 103. Several bodies of water are include within and surrounding the city, including Big Trout Lake, Lower Whitefish Lake, Rush Lake, Daggett Lake, Little Pine Lake, Fawn Lake, Pine Lake, Big Bird Lake, Velvet Lake, Greer Lake, Bass Lake, Goodrich Lake, Ox Lake, and Cross Lake itself, for which the town obtained its name. Nearby communities include Breezy Point, Chickamaw Beach, Emily, Fifty Lakes, Jenkins, Little Pine, Manhattan Beach, Mission, Pequot Lakes, Swanburg, and Wolford. Bemidji, Minnesota is about eighty-five miles north-northwest, and Cloquet is about ninety-five miles east of Crosslake.
