The city of Dover, Minnesota is located near the geographical center of Dover Township, and was originally known as Dover Center. The community was platted in 1869, although it was settled in 1854, largely by people from the East who had come to Minnesota looking for farm and timber lands. Its name was shortened to Dover when it was incorporated as a village. In 1908, it became a city. Dover is situated just north of Interstate Highway 90 on Minnesota Route 10, while US Highway 14 passes through the northern portion of the city. St. Charles is east of the city, and Eyota is west.
