Eagle Bend, Minnesota is a small city in Todd County. The community was named for its location, situated at a bend of Eagle Creek. US Highway 71 passes through the center of Eagle Bend. US 71 runs southeast of Eagle Bend to Clarissa, and then Browerville, before turning south. Bertha is north of Eagle Bend, also along US 71. Other nearby communities are Almora, Miltona, Parkers Prairie, Rose City, Spruce Center, and Wrightstown. Wadena, Minnesota is about twenty miles to the north. Eagle Bend was settled in the early 1880s in anticipation of the construction of the K-Line of the St. Paul, Minneapolis and Manitoba Railway, which later became the Burlington Northern. Charles O’Dell and Marion Crider were among the first to settle. O’Dell opened a general store there, and Crider took a homestead in the area. Soon afterwards, the townsite was purchased by Benjamin Abbot, a railroad executive, who wanted to change the name of the town to Abbottsville, but the townspeople opted to retain its original name. A post office was established in O’Dell’s store in 1882, and the community was incorporated as a village in 1890. Its population has remained relatively stable, with pluses followed by minuses.
