Founded in 1956, Greenwood, Minnesota is a small city in Hennepin County, in the lower eastern part of the state. Minnesota Highway 7 is the chief route through the city. Greenwood is situated on the shores of Excelsior Bay and St. Albans Bay or Lake Minnetonka, south of Deephaven, and north of Excelsior, which is across the bay. Other nearby communities include Shorewood and Tonka Bay. Minnetonka Is about seven miles northeast of Greenwood. The population of the city has ranged from just over five hundred in 1960 to just over seven hundred in 2000. There are also two townships in Minnesota by the name of Greenwood. Greenwood Township, in Saint Louis County, is situated along part of Lake Vermillion, in northeastern Minnesota. Another Greenwood Township is in Clearwater County, in the northwestern part of the state, but the population of this township was less than one hundred at the time of the last census.
