Little Falls, Minnesota is in Morrison County, near the geographic center of the state, and is the county seat. The main routes through the city are US Highway 10 and Minnesota Highways 27 and 371, and Little Falls is the western terminus of Minnesota Highway 28. Minnesota Highway 238 is nearby, linking Highway 27 to Interstate Highway 94 in Albany. The Mississippi River runs through the city, and the city of Belle Prairie abuts Little Falls at its northern limits. Other nearby communities include Buckman, Burtrum, Camp Ripley Junction, Flensburg, Freedhem, Genola, Gregory, Pierz, Pillsbury, Platte, Randall, Sobieski, Swanville, and Vawter. St. Cloud is about thirty miles south. Named for a squarely cut-off rock in the Mississippi River, where the water tumbled over an out-cropping of slate and granite. White settlers began to arrive in the mid-1840s. In 1849, the Little Falls Mills and Land Company was formed, a dam was built, and the little falls became a source of electric power. Soon, three other dams were built, powering a succession of companies, including the Pine Tree Lumber Company. Little Falls is the location of the boyhood home of Charles Lindbergh, whose father was a prominent Minnesota lawyer and US congressman. The city is host to several annual events, such as the Little Falls Dam Festival, the Little Falls Arts and Crafts Fair, the Little Falls Antiques and Collectibles Fair, the Lone Eagle Auto Club Car Show, the Morrison County Fair, and the Greater Minnesota Two-Cylinder Club Annual Field Days, as well as several attractions.
