The city of Roseau is the seat of government for Roseau County, Minnesota. The Roseau River runs through the center of the city, but there are otherwise no significant bodies of water in Roseau.
The Oakcrest Golf Course takes up a significant portion of southern Roseau, bordering on the river to the east.
The main routes through the city are Minnesota State Highways 11, 89, and 310, with Highway 310 intersecting Highways 11/89 just west of the center of the city, as Highways 11 and 89 are running together at that point. The Roseau Municipal Airport is northeast of the city. Roseau is about ten minutes from the Canadian border. The unincorporated community of Fox is about six miles west of Roseau, Malung is about six miles south-southeast, and Salol is ten miles to the east.
Polaris Industries was founded in Roseau in 1954, and still has engineering and manufacturing facilities there, although its corporate headquarters is now in Medina, Minnesota. The Polaris Experience Center, in Roseau, is a museum of Polaris products, including the second snowmobile ever made, and other products, such as ATVs, side-by-side vehicles, and motorcycles.
Roseau is situated in a part of the state where the coniferous forests give way to the prairies of the Red River Valley. The surrounding area includes tamarack bogs to the north, prairie to the west, and pine forests to the east.
Roseau City Park, situated on forty acres along the Roseau River in the southeastern part of the city, offers RV and tent camping sites, a playground area, boat launch, fishing pier, and other facilities.
Oakcrest Golf Course is an 18-hole championship golf course with a pro shop, bar and lounge area, putting green, and driving range.
Each summer, the Roseau County Fair is held in Roseau, which includes a parade, carnival, and several other contests and events.
The Roseau County Historical Society and Museum collects and exhibits items of significance to the heritage of the city and county, as well as publishing and promoting history books about Roseau County.
The Roseau Pioneer Farm and Village was created by the Roseau Lions Club in 1975, and later reorganized as a public non-profit organization. The farm serves as an agricultural museum.
