When new towns were established in Minnesota, schools were among the first things that the settlers set up. Saint Louis Park was no exception.
In 1859, School District No. 18 was established, covering an area of seven square miles. A school building was erected at the corner of Excelsior and Pleasant Avenue, although these were unpaved prairie trails at the time. Early teachers included George Craft, Miss Ellen Courlliard, and Winslow Paige Northway.
Known as the Pratt School, its students came from the area that included what is today Saint Louis Park and Edina. In 1872, the district was divided, with another school serving Edina. In the 1880s, another district was established in the northern part of the area, as it was anticipated that the population center would shift to the north.
When Saint Louis Park was incorporated as a village in 1886, an Independent School District was established, and the Lincoln School was opened in January of 1890. James T. Davis was the principal, and Mary Bates was the teacher.
A new housing development in the Manhattan Park area led to the need for another school. It was built, and Miss Bertha Bates became its teacher. In 1913, a high school was built.
The next decade brought a doubling of the village's population, for which additional schools were built and existing schools were added onto.
Today, the population of Saint Louis Park is about a hundred times what it was in 1890. Although there are only six public schools, they are much larger than the earlier schools were, and there are also several private and religious schools serving the community.
The campuses operated by St. Louis Park Public Schools include Aquila Elementary School, Peter Hobart Elementary School, Susan Lindgren Elementary School, Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School, St. Louis Park Middle School, and St. Louis Park High School.

Additionally, there are several private and faith-based early childhood programs, including those based on the Montessori methods of education.
These, and any other educational institutions or programs in Saint Louis Park, Minnesota are suitable for this category.
