Education, instruction, teaching, and learning in Sartell, Minnesota are the focus of topics in this category.
As was the case with most Minnesota towns, one of the first things on the agenda after a new settlement was made was to build a school to educate the children.
Although Sartell has long had an elementary school for local students in the early grades, Sartell students were tuitioned to either Sauk Rapids High School or to Saint Cloud Tech High School for their secondary education until the late 1960s.
In 1966, the Sartell school board voted to form its own secondary school district, passing a bond to fund the construction of a high school in 1967. This was important to the majority of voters in Sartell so that they could maintain control of their schools and school taxes, because there was a need for additional elementary school space, and so that local children could attend middle school and high school in Sartell, which would allow for greater participation in extracurricular activities and offer other advantages.
Voters in both communities decided to partner with nearby Saint Stephen, to create the Sartell-Saint Stephen Independent School District #748.
In 1969, a junior/senior high school opened in what is now the north wing of Sartell Middle School, serving the 7-12th grades.
In 1985, the south wing was built onto the Sartell High School, creating Sartell Intermediate and Sartell Junior High School. Today, Sartell Middle School (5-8th grades) is located on 3rd Avenue North.
Sartell High School opened in 1993, Pine Meadow Elementary School opened in 1999, and Oak Ridge Elementary School opened in 2004.
Besides its public school system, Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School offers a PK-6th grade program, with an emphasis on spiritual growth, academic excellence, and community service, and a curriculum that includes religion, reading, mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, spelling, phonetics, Spanish, music, physical education, computers, and character development.
These, and any other schools or educational programs in Sartell, are welcome in this category, including technical or vocational training, driving instruction, day care services, and private preschools.
