As in other towns in Minnesota and the Midwest, whenever communities were established, churches were soon to follow, as they were believed to be necessary for the development of healthy communities.

The extended families of Joseph B. Sartell and his brothers were mostly Presbyterian, and they helped to organize the first church in Sartell, Riverside Presbyterian Church, on the west bank of the Mississippi River, about a mile from what was then the town's only stop sign. Initially, the church served the spiritual interests of the town's Protestants, regardless of denomination. Today, the Riverside Evangelical Church is affiliated with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

The first Roman Catholic Church was Saint Francis Xavier Church, founded in 1948, and named for Francis Xavier Pierz, a Catholic missionary to the Native Americans in the region.

Other Christian churches serving the Sartell community include Messiah Lutheran Church, which was organized in 1980, and affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Celebration Lutheran Church, an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregation, was established in 1984.

Grace Baptist Fellowship, a Regular Baptist congregation, first met in Saint Cloud in 1986, moving to Sartell in 1991. Affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, Park Fellowship Church has been meeting in Sartell for more than a decade now.

The congregation of First United Methodist meets at their facilities on Pine Cone Road South, in Sartell.

The Waters Church and Solid Rock Family Church are non-denominational congregations in Sartell.

The Unity Spiritual Center is affiliated with the Unity Church.
