The church broke ground on a new building in 1902. The church added an English-speaking service in 1925, and German services were discontinued in 1949.
Roman Catholic services were held as far back as the 1850s, although the Sacred Heart Parish wasn't established until the early 1900s, its first mass held in 1918. Also serving the city's Catholic community is the Annunciation Catholic Church Mayhew Lake, located on Mayhew Lake Road NE.
